Madeira, the island of eternal spring
Madeira is an island in Portugal. Madeira is also called the island of eternal spring, as the temperatures are the same all year round. It's usually around 21 degrees. In Madeira we find a lot of monuments and also beautiful nature, which reminds me a bit of the Canary Islands Gran Canaria or Tenerife. The arrival here is very exciting, as the pilot has to turn the whole plane at the last minute and then brake a lot, because the runway is very short. Even when there is a strong wind in Madeira, you make an emergency landing in Morocco.
We stayed in a beautiful five-star hotel near the capital Funchal. We had a lot of good food and local specialties for breakfast and dinner. For example, their bananas, which are not allowed to be exported to the EU because they are too small but very good. Despite the fact that this beautiful island has many places to explore, we have seen almost everything. The stay began with a huge trip to the capital, where they have two beautiful botanical gardens overlooking the city. We even rode to the biggest local attraction, namely a sleigh. They are ordinary sledges from a basket, where two guys are standing behind you, who are driving with you on the road at a speed of 50 km / h and braking with rubber boots.
I really enjoyed the trip to the laurel forests, which are 600 years old and it was nice to visit the waterfalls and lakes. We also saw the famous levadas built by slaves, and to this day water flows from the mountain tops to the capital. If there were no levads, there would be no water in the Madeira valleys. Our last trip was the second highest mountain in Madeira, from where there is a wonderful view of the landscape of the whole island. There is also a NATO radar, so when we went there, we saw a military exercise. We also visited their traditional houses, which I didn't like very much, as there were only a few of them in the middle of the city and a lot of tourists all around them.
Although I am a fan of Barcelona, I had to go to the museum of the biggest local native, Cristiano Ronaldo, where a lot of cups were copies. Of course, I liked Lionel Messi's trophies in Barcelona more. In Madeira, I found it interesting that orchids and other rare flowers, which we buy in the Czech Republic for hundreds of crowns, grow on the island like weeds. Madeira is a beautiful island that is richer than Portugal, which has lower wages. The average salary in Madeira is CZK 20,000 per month, while on the mainland it is CZK 15,000. And that's counting Lisbon and Porto, which I visited recently. There is a lot of work in Madeira, so a lot of Portuguese go to this island to earn extra money. Madeira is really charming, and even though Ronaldo was born there, I tried it and enjoyed the holiday a lot. I also found that Madeira was one of the most beautiful islands I had a chance to visit in my life.
